IHM appointed to lead prestigious Cowes project.
Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new publishing partner for the Cowes Port Handbook & Directory and its popular affiliated website at www.cowes.co.uk. Island Holiday Media Ltd have been granted the contract to develop, distribute and market the Handbook, Directory and website with immediate effect. After the regrettable demise of The Knowledge Zone, CHC’s previous publishing partner, the Commission has had to act promptly to ensure that everything is on target to get the 2011 edition ready for publication in March 2011. CHC invited a number of companies to tender, with a simple brief to DEVISE-DEVELOP-DELIVER the Cowes Port Handbook and Directory and its online equivalent. Rather than sticking rigidly to the existing format, CHC was looking for a creative and practical solution rather than being overly prescriptive about the need for one company to necessarily produce the Port Handbook and a Cowes Directory and/or Cowes Online. From a starting point of inviting ten companies, the majority of whom were Island-based, to present outline proposals, four shortlisted companies were invited to present their ideas. Stuart McIntosh, CHC’s Chief Executive and Cowes Harbour Master and his selection panel were particularly impressed by the professionalism and forward-thinking approach taken by Island Holiday Media. He commented, “We feel very positive about this appointment and believe that the new partnership can take these two well-known information resources into a new phase with an exciting new lease of life.” In response, David Brooks, Sales Director, Island Holiday Media said, ‘We are delighted to have been appointed by Cowes Harbour Commissioners to produce a new Website and Port Handbook.

Bumper Year for UK Tourism?
According to the website TravelMole, UK tourism is set for “another bumper year”. The headline for this survey, undertaken by market research agency BDRC Continental, says that 70% of people are likely to book a UK holiday in 2010. That should be good news for the Island despite only growing our market by 0.5% in 2009.
The appeal of domestic holidays also appears to be strengthening with 31% feeling the UK is becoming more appealing as a destination, compared to 25% in 2009 and just 19% in the pre-economic downturn days of 2008.
Families are once again at the heart of the ‘staycation’ boom and have been quick to commit to holidaying in the UK again in 2010. 21% of families surveyed had already booked a holiday in the UK for 2010 compared with 14% of those without children. With our family market in decline perhaps this in an area that needs more attention from the Island’s marketing team?
Encouraging news for the Island is that self-catering and seaside holidays once again likely to prove popular in 2010.
